Artist Abdul Alkader
As a boy in Syria, I dreamed of becoming an artist, but my father didn't think it was such a good idea. When war broke out I fled and embarked on a long journey.
During this journey I came to the realization that in life you have to do what makes you happy. For me, this was becoming an artist. I promised myself that when I arrived safely in Europe that I would then go and fulfill this dream.
I compare myself to a crow. For me the crow means: strength, choice of monogamy, wisdom, freedom and perseverance. He did not get to decide his fate, just like me. The frames on the sock represent all the boxes I am placed in by my background.
