Artist - Helen Roeten

Her Story

Helen is the artist behind the sock "Hope". She is the initiator of The Living Museum Project in Alkmaar. A place where people with a mental health background make art to enhance their recovery. This art is called Art Brut and, according to Helen, stands for "Art to make your soul."

Helen is bi-polar and as a result undergoes recurring episodes of anxiety and depression. She is limitless, which means she is always living beyond her own limits. By default, these periods begin with three months of no sleep and last a year.

She uses her experiences to inspire others in similar situations. She also helps other Art Brut artists make a living with their paintings.
