Meet Rob — the artist behind our January sock
This is Rob, 77 years old. He has been coming to the Doe Mee Huis of SWOM Montfoort for years: a place where people come together for structure, guidance, connection, and above all: real human contact. It’s also where Rob loves to create his art.
Rob is an intelligent man with a sharp mind, dry humor, and a deep love for creativity. Painting gives him relaxation. It’s something that has become truly important to him over the past few years. He now takes painting classes and works with great care and precision – much like in his earlier career as a technical draftsman.
He paints what moves him: colorful landscapes, scenes from nature, and underwater worlds full of life and motion. One of these paintings – a joyful, colorful underwater world – became the inspiration for our January sock. He created the painting based on a photo he found online, but gave it his very own feeling and expression.
Rob has a remarkable life story. He was born in Batavia and moved to the Netherlands as a child, around the age of nine. He first lived in The Hague and later in Rijswijk. After school, he studied aeronautical engineering and went on to build a career in drawing and technology. Maybe that’s also reflected in his art: attention to detail, but always with warmth and imagination.
This sock represents color, creativity, storytelling, and being seen. And the idea that his art can now literally pass on warmth to others? That makes him genuinely happy.
